Think Christian asked me to weigh in on the flap surrounding the Joe Paterno statue at Penn State. I took a different approach than most, going "Old Testament" on the issue. What do you think? You can read my post here.
I didn't think about the statue as a graven image, but I do remember thinking that this wouldn't be an issue if the statue wasn't cast while Joe was still alive. If Penn State was thinking about casting a statue of Joe soon after his record win, the project at this point would be on hold. The arrogance (and creepiness) of casting a statue of someone while he or she is still alive is a high form of vanity. Yet another reason why I don't visit Amway Headquarters...
